Singing Surf
Chelsea Theatre, London 2022
‘Singing Surf’ is a humorous and poetic post pandemic story about silence via Zen, nuclear power plants, French films and some special sunlit moments in the garden.
‘Singing Surf’ is a sequel to ‘Celestial Navigation, Where am I?’ which was performed at the Calder Bookshop Theatre in 2019. It is the second in a series of works that celebrate human resilience by getting to know a specific UK community; ‘Celestial Navigation, Where am I?’ focussed on the community of South Uist, Outer Hebrides, Scotland, and ‘Singing Surf’ the community of Seascale, Cumbria.
‘Singing Surf’ references the films of French director Eric Rohmer, and the writer, speaker and self-styled “philosophical entertainer” Alan Watts. It features personal stories from the Seascale community and what it is to start going clubbing in your 50’s.
